Overview:
This lesson will test the students comprehension skills to make sure they are understanding what they are reading. They will read stories from a website provided, and using a word processing program, will create a summary and a list of similarities and differences between two characters.
Learning Objectives:
This is an individual assignment. The students are expected to be able to listen to and read a different story each day from the website provided. To ensure comprehension of what they read, after each story, they are expected to create a summary, and pick two characters from the story which they will identify similarities and differences for. They are expected to know how to open a Microsoft Word document in order to type these. The summary will need to be three to four sentences long, and they must provide at least two similarities and two differences. There are enough stories provided on the website that a different story can be read each day. No story should be repeated.
Materials Needed:
Computer
Internet
Word processing program, such as Microsoft Word
Activities and Procedures:
The student will go to the website provided
They will then click on one of the stories to the left of the page
They will click play, and listen to the story
They will then open a Microsoft Word document, and type a three to four sentence summary on the story, and two similarities/two differences between two characters from the story
They are to save this document as their last name_1 on the first day, last name_2 on the second day, and so on for all five days.
Assessment:
I have previously read all of the stories on the website, so at the end of each day I will read each students summary, and not only make sure that it is at least three to four sentences long, but also if it pertains to the story to make sure that the student comprehended what they read. I will also read the similarities and differences they have listed and make sure there are at least two of each, and that they are all corresponded with the correct characters to make sure they understand which character is which.
